Funky Transport + Joneeq feat. Lola [8TR-002]
EIGHT-TRACKS is pleased to announce the latest collaboration with our extended family in Aberdeen, Scotland. Iain Macpherson's long history as Funky Transport is highlighted by several singles on labels such as 20/20 Vision, Playhouse, and EIGHT-TRACKS' mother label Eighth Dimension. JoneeQ has some fabulous singles on Flat and Round as well as Flygaric Tracks. These two previously came together for an acclaimed single with Derrick Carter's Classic Music Company. Bring into the fold another Aberdeen resident by the name of Lola, who had contributed vocals to JoneeQ's past records, and we find ourselves blessed with the melancholy greatness that is "How Can U (Be So Far Away)". Lola gives a heart-wrenching performance, singing a song about the complex and unsure world of the heart. Funky Transport and JoneeQ supply rolling beats and tuneful keys that drive the lyrics making an emotionally deep tune work it on deep house dancefloors. It's a superb mix of elements that you rarely encounter in the 12" racks. Can you tell we're a bit enamored?
A quality trio of remixes open up other dimensions of the original cut. Q-Burns Abstract Message supplies a hectic dub, increasing the BPM with a groove like Jack had and a bit of tweaky mono-synth action. Atnarko and SF keyboardist/producer Sen - Sei combine forces on a hefty rework, complete with a funky sandbox beat shoveled by a solid low-end. The way the vocal pops in and out is gorgeous if we say so ourselves. Finally, our Canuck friend Jon Delerious goes for an epic treatment, laying the deepness on thick while fueling it with a D-town bassline and a bit of dreamy percussion.
"How Can U (Be So Far Away)" is a labor of love for all concerned, and we at EIGHT-TRACKS have been sitting on this song since our inception. DJs as diverse as Lars Funk D'Void, Joshua/DJ Iz, and Murray Richardson have already embraced this EP in their sets. Now EIGHT-TRACKS is excited about finally sharing this special moment in house music with you. We know you'll dig it.
